Travelling to the plantations and meeting the producers opened our eyes to the main issues in this sector.
Here you can find out more information on concrete projects that we are working on in certain tea- and rooibos-producing countries, within the context of our fair-trade programmes.

FAIR FOR LIFE TEA PROJECT IN SRI LANKA

Support for producers in UDAVERYA, KOTAKITHULA and GAMPOLA

For over 15 years now, we have been actively engaged in long-standing exchanges with the Sri Lankan producers from whom we buy the tea for our teabags, as well as some of our loose-leaf tea.

Here, we promote the local production chain by helping to fund concrete and sustainable projects.

Number of farmers involved : 1700

Programme objectives :

  • Implement individual entrepreneurship projects that generate additional income
  • Improve farmers’ living conditions (by buying a bus and building a nursery) and organic farming practices
  • Install childcare and reception infrastructure for children and families of farmers.
  • Build two new houses
  • Create a community centre for wives of farmers and provide economic support to enable them to be independent

FAIR FOR LIFE ROOIBOS PROJECT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Support for the producers of Bo Dam Farm (Pty) Ltd & Dedam Farming

DESTINATION promotes the local rooibos production chain in South Africa by helping to fund concrete and sustainable projects.

Programme objectives :

  • Provide basic literacy in English for employees to help overcome language barriers
  • Improve communications possibilities for employees with their families by installing a telephone tower and free Internet routers for farmers
