3 ORIGINS, 3 DESTINATIONS
THE TEAS OF SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka became the isle of tea when Scotsman James Taylor brought over tea plants from China and Assam to be planted there in the late 19th century. Swathes of tea plantations now cover a large part of the island right up to its highest point, at more than 2500 metres above sea level. Sri Lankan teas are, for the most part, black teas that produce an ambery elixir that is smooth, robust, rich and stimulating.
THE TEAS OF INDIA
Organic Indian teas from the south of the country are closer to the Ceylon variety and form excellent bases for developing blends.
The teas of Darjeeling in northern India, grown at high altitudes under the foothills of the Himalayas, offer elixirs of unparalleled exquisiteness, with very distinctive notes of muscatel and baked fruits.
THE ROOIBOS TEAS OF SOUTH AFRICA
Famous plant indigenous to South Africa, ‘rooibos’ means ‘red bush’ in Afrikaans. When infused in water, the leaves of this bush yield a pleasant, mild drink with the touch of a natural vanilla note. South African rooibos may be enjoyed at any time of the day.
THE 5 COLOURS OF OUR TEA
White tea refers to the young shoot and bud, which are freshly picked then dried to impart the tea with the naturally delicate, exquisite quality that is particularly appreciated by organic tea lovers.
Green tea is unfermented tea that is picked, wilted, rolled and dried, or steamed and sometimes roasted before drying. Renowned for the antioxidant properties of its polyphenols, it is a natural choice for organic tea lovers.
Black tea is fermented following a completely natural process. The green leaves are placed on racks where hot air, combined with a humidity level of about 95%, causes oxidation. The tea leaf turns from green to coppery black and its taste is radically transformed, ready to bring subtle pleasure to fervent drinkers of black tea from individual sachets.
Blue or oolong tea is a semi-fermented variety. It only undergoes partial fermentation (from 20 to 50%), which is what gives it its unique and subtle flavours and makes it such a charming cuppa, prized by connoisseurs.
Rooibos comes from the red bush known as Aspalathus linearis. Sourced exclusively from South Africa, its fine leaves are gathered, fermented and dried to produce a unique and flavourful brew.
Your organic and eco-friendly teas by Destination are also available in bulk, loose-leaf form, ready to be infused in your teapot and remain in perfect step with your tea ritual.
